The Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan said electricity was supplied to Afghanistan only, and exports to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan were suspended.
On February 1, speaking at the press conference, Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan Daler Juma said the Republic had adopted export restrictions on electricity to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. Currently, electricity was supplied to Afghanistan only, the press office of the Ministry reported.
The Minister noted that export restrictions had been adopted due to a decrease of river flow in 2020. For example, the water level in the Nurek water storage reservoir decreased by 4 metres compared to the same period last year.
The Cabinet of Ministers decided to put a limit on electricity exports to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity to the local population during the autumn and winter months.
The Minister said electricity exports had fallen by 48% in 2020 compared to 2019. He added that Tajikistan was supplying currently the minimum amount of electricity to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, which was done to retain the connection of power lines.
As was reported, the Republican headquarters for efficient electricity use was established in accordance with the Order of the Cabinet of Ministers on December 10 last year.
