Vice-speakers of Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis to be reduced in number

On September 25, the Milliy Tiklanish faction of the Democratic Party discussed a new draft law.

The number of vice-speakers of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan is to be reduced from 7 to 2. On September 25, the Milliy Tiklanish faction in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis discussed a new draft law, the press office of Milliy Tiklanish reported to CentralAsia.news.

Moreover, vice-speakers are to be prohibited from being members of any party, and their membership will be suspended for the period of performance of their duties. This amendment aims to harmonize the laws regulating the activities of the chambers of the Oliy Majlis with the new Constitution. 13 laws are to be amended and supplemented to enhance this initiative.

The chair of the faction and leader of the UzLiDep Party Alisher Kadyrov noted that this amendment is of great importance for the Republic. He emphasised that parliamentarians would benefit from the fact that the chair of the faction would not hold the position of vice-speaker. Kadyrov also added that this change would allow the chair of the faction to work and make decisions without being influenced by others.
