In the first six months of 2023, the total number of containers transported between the Turkmenbashi International Seaport in Turkmenistan and the Azerbaijani port Alat has almost tripled. Transportation is carried out by the «Balkan» ship. This was reported to CentralAsia.news by the press office of the Merchant Marine Fleet of Turkmenistan.
In total, 2362 TEU were transported by sea along the indicated route. Of the total volume of cargo transportation, imports reached 25 percent, exports reached 34 percent, and transit reached 41 percent of cargo.
Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan implement major international and regional projects in the field of transport. This work is aimed at expanding economic and trade cooperation.
Recently a delegation from Turkmenistan visited the Alat Free Economic Zone and the Baku International Sea Trade Port. The officials considered the possibility of building up partnership between the two countries to increase the volume of cargo transportation between the Central Asian states and European countries.
