Turkmenistan proposes to optimize Russia-India transport corridor

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in the Central Asia-Russia Summit.

On October 14, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in the Central Asia-Russia Summit in Astana. The Turkmen leader proposed to intensify the work of the North-South transport corridor: from Russia through Central Asia to the sea terminals in the Indian Ocean, the Turkmenistan: Golden Age News Agency reported.

“Turkmenistan, as a country that provides the shortest route to the Persian Gulf and the ports of Iran and from there to India, is ready to launch this project,” the Turkmen leader emphasised.

The President proposed to focus joint efforts on creating modern transport, transit and communication networks in the territories of Russia and the Central Asia countries through the construction of an extensive infrastructure. This will make it possible to cover transport transit routes in continental Eurasia with access to the world ocean.

Berdimuhamedov highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation in culture, science, education, sports and tourism. In this context, he put forward the initiative to hold the Festival of Culture and Arts of the Peoples of Central Asia and Russia in 2023.
