Parliamentarian outraged by mortgage cost in Kyrgyzstan

She emphasised that $650 per square metre are a lot of money, which not everyone can afford, particularly in the regions.

Speaking at the meeting of the Ishenim faction, a Kyrgyz parliamentarian Zhyldyz Taalaibek kyzy was outraged by the high mortgage cost in the country. She said the current mortgage cost of $650 per square metre was unreasonably high, Tazabek reported.

She addressed the authorities with a question about the average house price in the regions of the country. Deputy Chairman of the State Mortgage Company Tilek Jeembaev replied that the average price per square metre is the same across the country, since this is the construction cost of residential buildings.

However, Taalaibek kyzy protested, noting that the mortgage cost originally stood at $450 per square metre, as was agreed with the Saudi Fund.

The parliamentarian urged to reconsider and revise the mortgage cost, noting that the current average monthly mortgage payment of 14,000 soms is equivalent to their salary for most people.
