Uzbekistan starts constructing earthquake-proof buildings

The Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services is responsible for implementing the project.

On April 17, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the Special Resolution on the construction of only earthquake-proof buildings in the seismic hazard zones where seismic activity can have an intensity of 8 degrees, Podrobno.uz reports.

From June 1 this year, it will be mandatory to use new design methods to construct buildings and facilities in the seismic hazard regions. Builders will be required to equip high-rise (more than 9 storeys) buildings with special seismic protective systems, including seismic isolators and dampers. Similar requirements will be imposed on the construction of medical institutions which have 5 or more storeys.

The specialists of the Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services are responsible for enforcing this Resolution. The employees of the Tashkent University of Architecture and Civil Engineering will help them monitor the implementation of instructions.

The authorities of the Republic are set to reconstruct earthquake-damaged buildings.
