President of Kazakhstan visits flooded areas

A state of emergency was declared in 6 districts of the region.

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev made a working trip to North Kazakhstan Region, where he flew over Kyzylzhar district, Petropavlovsk and the Sergeev water storage reservoir suffering from flooding, the press office of the President of Kazakhstan reported.

North Kazakhstan Region Akim Gauez Nurmukhambetov reported on the current situation, noting that the flood wave affected Kyzylzhar, Yesil and Shal Akin districts and Petropavlovsk. A state of emergency was declared in 6 districts, where more than 2,000 houses were flooded and 10,345 people were evacuated.

5,270 people and 906 pieces of equipment are engaged to bolster flood defences in the region, and measures are being taken to restore life-supporting infrastructure. The commission is conducting assessment and compensating for material damage to flood victims.

In total, over 34,000 people and 4,000 pieces of equipment, including the aircrafts of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other departments, are involved in rescue operations in the western and northern regions of Kazakhstan.
