On April 15, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov congratulated the participants of the XXXVIII Conference of the Organization for Cooperation between Railways (OSJD) that had started its work. The President noted that Turkmenistan takes an active role in developing transport and transit corridors, Turkmenistan: Golden Age reported.
«Turkmenistan, located at the crossroads of Central Asia and Europe, is consistently building up its transnational transit capacities through modernising the material and technical base of the national transport infrastructure,» Berdimuhamedov noted.
Turkmenistan has built the transnational railways Tejen-Serakhs-Mashhad, Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran, Kerki-Ymamnazar-Aqina, Serhetabat-Torghundi, Zerger-Kerki-Kerkichi and Ashgabat-Garagum-Dashoguz and the railway bridges Kerki-Kerkichi and Turkmenabat-Farab during the years of independence, the President said. Currently, Turkmenistan views the further expansion of transport and transit corridor infrastructure along the North-South and East-West routes as a key priority.
«Turkmenistan as a member of the Organization for Cooperation between Railways since 1994 has been pursuing a well-coordinated transport policy aimed at the harmonious development of railway infrastructure at the national level, as well as transit freight transportation on a regional scale,» Serdar Berdimuhamedov said.
