Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan participates in meeting of Council of Foreign Ministers in Minsk

The meeting focused on key aspects of multifaceted interstate cooperation within the CIS.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Serdar Muhammetdurdyev took part in the regular meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers, which took place in Minsk on April 12, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reported.

The foreign ministers from Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev arrived in Minsk to participate in the meeting. Belarus was represented at the event by Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Aleinik.

The heads of the foreign policy departments from the participating countries held one-on-one and expanded talks. They discussed topical issues of international and regional politics and interaction within the CIS and approved the draft Convention on the legal status of delegations to the CIS Member States.

The participants approved the list of the CIS sports capitals for the next two years. This status will be granted to Ganja in Azerbaijan in 2025 and Almaty in Kazakhstan in 2026.

The parties approved the implementation of the Action Programme to intensify partnerships among the foreign ministries of the CIS Member States for 2023 and signed the statement on the 30th anniversary of the observer status of the CIS at the UN General Assembly.

The next meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers will take place in Moscow on October 7.
