Kazakhstan objects to being blamed for flooding in Russian regions

The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic, headed by Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, emphasises that it has been informing the Russian side about its decisions on water discharges starting from April 2.

The message from the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan says the statement made by Plenipotentiary Envoy of the RF President to the Urals Federal District Vladimir Yakushev regarding the causes of flooding in the Russian regions is incorrect. The Russian politician spoke about a lack of coordination between Astana and Moscow in the fight against flooding, the press office of the Ministry of Water Resources reported.

In its message, the Ministry says flood waters enter the Tobol River from Russia, and the decisions on water discharges are based on the situation on the Russian side.

«The parties exchange information around the clock as water discharges are increasing or dropping. And we are not talking about any uncoordinated actions,» the Ministry, headed by Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, stated.

The Ministry expressed readiness to further cooperate and exchange information with Russia in the spirit of good neighbourly relations.
