The law that regulates the settlement of the rights of squatted lands and buildings built on them was adopted in the last reading. The draft law will be submitted to the Senate for approval, the press office of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan reported.
The draft law aims to establish the legal framework for registration of the leasehold rights of land plots squatted by citizens. The amendments will also help settle the ownership rights of housing facilities and other buildings.
In his speech, Deputy Minister of Justice Alisher Karimov noted the important role of this law in resolving the problem of 493,00 hectares of squatted land, affecting over 3.8 million people.
In 2018, the Decree of the President of Uzbekistan legalised the ownership rights for over 621,000 citizens who had built their houses on squatted lands without lawful permission.
