Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan set to strengthen economic cooperation

The Prime Ministers of the two countries discussed strengthening bilateral economic partnerships.

Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov arrived in Bishkek to meet with Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov. The parties discussed improving economic cooperation and interaction between the two countries, the press office of the Government of Kyrgyzstan reported.

Akylbek Zhaparov shared optimistic forecasts for commodity turnover this year, which, according to him, could reach $2 billion.

Last year, total commodity turnover stood at $1.317 billion, or increased by 11,6% compared to 2022. Last year, exports reached $455.7 million, while imports amounted to $862.2 million.

They discussed the preparations for the upcoming visit of President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov to Kazakhstan, which is scheduled to take place on April 18-19. The Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan congratulated his counterpart on his new position and thanked Kazakhstan for providing support after the incident at the thermal power plant in Bishkek.
