Authorities of Uzbekistan set to lure youth into agriculture

Almost 60,000 hectares of land are to be sold at e-auctions and leased to young citizens of the Republic.

The authorities of Uzbekistan have decided to launch a new programme to increase incomes and provide employment for young people. They are planning to lease plots of land to young people for agricultural purposes. President of the Republic Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved the relevant decree, the press office of the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan reported.

The initiative envisages the allocation of about 60,000 hectares of land managed by the regional administrations. Young people can take land on lease through e-auctions to develop their farms. Furthermore, the authorities will set up a new system to coordinate all the stages of agricultural production from production to sale. According to this plan, young people can buy leased plots within 10 years.

Land lease e-auctions will be held on the E-auksion platform. Young people willing to take part have to be on the list of applicants recommended by Mehalla Sevens. The authorities say young people provided with state support and benefits will retain this advantage to take land on lease.
