President of Kazakhstan calls on SCO for unity on security issues

Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev believes that the SCO should set an example of coordinated and concrete actions to ensure stability and security in the region.

A meeting of President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev with the secretaries of the Security Councils of the members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization took place in Astana. In his speech, the leader of Kazakhstan said his country views the SCO Summit in Astana as of great importance and has begun preparations for the forum, the press office of the President of Kazakhstan reported.

Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev noted that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was founded to ensure stability and security in the region and jointly counter the ‘three forces of evil’.  The leader of Kazakhstan said these threats not only continue to be urgent today, but also are undergoing changes, becoming increasingly severe.

«We, in turn, need to take more systemic and decisive countermeasures. We cannot allow any manifestations of terrorism, extremism and separatism to be used to undermine stability in our states,» Tokayev shared his opinion.

The President of the Republic emphasised that one of the priorities of Kazakhstan’s chairmanship in the SCO is to respond to these threats.
