Orphans in Kyrgyzstan to receive 500,000 soms after they turn 18

The Prime Minister said banks will keep 270 million soms for this purpose.

The Kyrgyz authorities are planning to provide orphans with a once only payment of 500,000 soms in the near future. About 270 million soms will be placed into deposit accounts at banks soon, the press office of the Government of Kyrgyzstan reported.

Prime Minister of the Republic Akylbek Japarov explained that the money will be available to young people who grew up in an orphanage after they reach 18 years of age.

Currently, 1,868 orphans reside in the country.

Zhaparov noted that it had happened that grown-up orphans not only found themselves without proper attention and support, but also followed the path of a violation of law. However, now that the national economy has become stronger, the Government is paying much more attention to the most vulnerable groups in society who have additional support needs.
