Senate approves agreement on simplified travel process between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan

The Protocol aims to set up a legal framework to promote friendly relations between the two countries.

Members of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan approved the Protocol on amendments to the Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan intergovernmental agreement on mutual travel of citizens. The President of Kazakhstan will sign this document soon, Zakon.kz reports.

In accordance with the Protocol, citizens of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are not required to register with the competent authorities if they stay on each other’s territory for up to 30 calendar days. Citizens do not need a temporary residence permit or temporary registration if they enter, exit and transit through the territory of another country for up to 90 days within a period of 180 calendar days.

If the period of stay exceeds 30 days from the day on which a citizen crossed the state border of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, he must apply for a temporary residence permit in accordance with the laws of the country in which he stays.

«Once the Protocol is ratified, its implementation will neither entail negative socio-economic and legal effects nor require additional financial costs from the state budget,» Zakon.kz quoted members of the Mazhilis of Kazakhstan, headed by Maulen Ashimbaev.
