Rosatom helps Kyrgyzstan build 400 MW hydropower plants

Construction work on small hydropower plants is to be completed within 1.5-2 years.

Deputy Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan Taalaibek Baygaziev announced Rosatom’s plans to launch construction of several small hydropower plants in the country. The potential total capacity of these plants could reach 400 MW, Tazabek reported.

It is planned to build a power plant with a capacity of 24 MW at the initial stage. More of them are to be built in the future, and their total capacity will increase to 400 MW, including due to the unique geographical conditions. According to Baygaziev, all the construction projects are to be completed within 1.5-2 years.

Rosatom will provide financing to the construction projects on the terms of a retroactive compensation for electricity costs.

The Rosatom Wind Energy Division and the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan signed an agreement on the development and implementation of an investment project of renewable energy facilities with a capacity of up to 1 GW on the second day of the XIII ATOMEXPO International Forum in Sochi. Baygaziev signed the document on behalf of Kyrgyzstan.
