Sadyr Japarov lays capsule in foundation pit of Akkula Hippodrome

The new hippodrome will be several times larger than the existing one.

On March 21, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov laid a capsule in the foundation pit of the Akkula Hippodrome in the west of Bishkek, the press office of the President of Kyrgyzstan reported the details.

Addressing those present, Japarov noted that he was glad to greet everyone on the day of the spring equinox and the Nooruz holiday. He said the new hippodrome will host equestrian games and competitions, for example at-chabysh, zhorgo salysh, kok boru and kyz kuumai, which are an important element of the national culture and traditions.

The President of Kyrgyzstan expressed belief that the new hippodrome will be a cultural and sports centre, attracting citizens of Kyrgyzstan and other countries. He emphasised that the hippodrome will be not only a venue for sporting events, but also a place of recreation.

Akkula will have 10,000 seats for spectators at kok boru competitions and 20,000 seats in the main arena, which significantly exceeds the seating capacity of the existing hippodrome. The new hippodrome will cover an area of over 200 hectares, while the old hippodrome has an area of 57 hectares.
