Astana hosts First Bobek Symposium of Neonatologists of Kazakhstan

It took place at the UMC Centre for Maternity and Childhood.

The First Bobek Symposium of Neonatologists of Kazakhstan was held at the UMC Centre for Maternity and Childhood in Astana, the press office of the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan reported.

Paediatric medical experts from Kazakhstan and other countries discussed introducing advanced neonatal essential survival technologies and developing neonatal and fetal surgery and paediatric cardiac, angio- and neurosurgery. The issues under discussion included early screening to detect congenital malformations.

The Republican Centre for Fetal Care was set up at the UMC CF under the auspices of the Ministry of Health and with the support of Yuri Vladimirovich Pya. Qualified interdisciplinary doctors verify diagnoses and provide consultations at the Centre.

The participants noted that infant mortality is a sensitive indicator affected by many factors. Though the public health system has made progress towards improving neonatal care and reducing newborn mortality, it is facing new challenges.
