District in Uzbekistan receives 120 billion soums to support business

However, the desired progress towards the promotion of entrepreneurship in the region has not been made, the President of Uzbekistan said.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited Saykhunabad district in Syrdarya Region, where he held an online meeting on the optimized use of plots of land and home-based businesses to increase the income of local populations. He noted that 120 billion soums were earmarked to support entrepreneurship in the region in 2023, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

The President emphasised that substantial funds are earmarked annually to promote entrepreneurship in Uzbekistan. Currently, the main task is to encourage to use private lands and develop home-based businesses. People should earn 1-2 million soums on a one-hectare plot in the future, the President said.

Despite investment in the promotion of entrepreneurship in Saykhunabad, the results have not met expectations. Some officials, including the Syrdarya Region First Deputy Khokim the and the Saykhunabad District Khokim, were dismissed from their posts for this reason.

Mirziyoyev expressed dissatisfaction with the slow growth of industrial production in Saykhunabad in 2023. Of the 19 mahallas, 16 do not have value added production. Buildings with ready-made infrastructure stand idle, and there are no ideas for raw material processing, production preparation and cooperation. Furthermore, the banks support only regular customers, leaving ordinary citizens with their ideas on the sidelines and hindering job creation.
