Dushanbe hosts First National Forum of Cooperatives

It will help achieve food security in Tajikistan, which is a priority for the authorities of the Republic.

On March 12-13, Dushanbe hosted the First National Forum of Cooperatives. The organisers included the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic. Representatives of government agencies, cooperatives and international development partners attended the event. They discussed the challenges and opportunities for cooperatives and other topical issues, the press office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) reported.

In his opening remarks, FAO Representative in Tajikistan Oleg Guchgeldiyev expressed the opinion that cooperatives in the Republic are among the effective tools of facilitating market access and financing for small and medium-sized businesses.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Zevarsho Zevarshoev addressed the forum. He stated that following the event, practical recommendations will be prepared for the development of a cooperative network in Tajikistan’s agricultural sector, which will help achieve food security — one of the strategic goals of the Republic.
