Kazakhstan has new requirements for foreigners and stateless persons

New rules for obtaining a temporary residence permit in Kazakhstan will come into force on March 24, 2024.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan has issued the Order to amend the procedure for issuing temporary and permanent residence permits to foreigners and stateless persons. The new rules introduce the concept of «fingerprint registration», which foreigners and stateless persons must undergo at local police stations, Zakon.kz reports.

To obtain a temporary residence permit, foreigners and stateless persons must contact the police station at their place of residence or fill in the form and submit an application through a state corporation. They must provide the supporting documents on the purpose of their stay. Foreigners and stateless persons who have reached the age of 16 must submit an application no later than 10 days after their birthday.

This public service requires the applicant, his authorized representative or a representative of a legal entity to be physically present.

A temporary residence permit is issued free of charge, but permanent resident applicants should pay a fee equivalent to 4 minimum wage amounts when their applications are approved.
