Anti cyberbullying commissions to be set up at Kyrgyz schools

A commission will consist of school administrators and teachers and be responsible for reviewing applications on such cases.

A member of Parliament Jogorku Kenesh Nurlanbek Azygaliev presented the draft law on the regulations on mobile phone use in educational institutions. The proposed law envisages establishing the specific rules for the use of smartphones for each school jointly with teachers and parents. It is also planned to set up anti‑cyberbullying commissions at educational institutions, Kabar reported.

The draft law states that mobile devices should not distract schoolchildren in class. However, the parliamentarian does not propose banning cell phones in schools, as cell phones and tablets are a tool for increasing digital literacy.

The law reflects the need to combat cyberbullying, which is one of the serious problems in the modern world. It is proposed to set up a permanent commission consisting of school administrators and teachers who will work together with parents on such cases.

The main aim of the draft law is to create a safe environment at educational institutions and develop a healthy attitude towards the use of cell phones and computers in children and adolescents, as well as teach them to manage their study time effectively.
