Ashgabat hosts 15th Meeting of OTS Council of Elders

Turkmenistan supports the initiatives for promoting and consolidating good neighbourliness and mutual understanding.

On March 11, the 15th Meeting of the Council of Elders of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) started its work in the conference hall of the Garagum Hotel in the capital of Turkmenistan, the CentralAsia.news correspondent in Ashgabat reported.

Turkmenistan is committed to an open foreign policy on diplomatic, economic and humanitarian issues and constructively cooperates with the countries of the region and the world, welcoming the initiatives for promoting and consolidating good neighbourliness and mutual understanding. Turkmenistan promotes cooperation with the Organisation of Turkic States and its members in the same orbit.

The international event opened with a meeting of heads of delegations in a narrow format, chaired by National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of Halk Maslahaty, Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

«Our meeting coincided with the first day of the holy month of Oraza, most blessed and revered by Muslims around the world. This is a time of triumph of lofty spiritual values in the lives of people — humanism, charity, kindness and moral purity. All this is essential to ensuring the harmonious development of modern society, strengthening solidarity among peoples and raising a better generation,» said the Chairman of Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan in his opening remarks.

In the evening, a ritual meal sadaqa-agyzachar was given for the guests of honour — the delegations from the OTS Member States to mark the onset of the holy month of Oraza (Ramadan) according to the Muslim calendar.
