Students from defunct universities in Uzbekistan to be transferred to other universities

The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic emphasised that no students will be left behind.

Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Uzbekistan Abduvali Khalikov emphasised that students from the non-state universities, the licenses of which were revoked, could be transferred to other private educational institutions in the same specialty, kun.uz reported.

Khalikov noted that academic activities have been suspended at three universities: Valley Innovative University, Binary University and Namangan International University.

Students and their parents began submitting applications for transfer to other non-state universities at which they will continue their studies. Over 6,000 students from Namangan International University have submitted applications to the State Special Commission.

According to the Minister, students will not need to take additional exams to transfer to another private university. However, those willing to enter state universities should pass exams.

Khalikov noted that students are allowed to complete a semester at non-state universities and then apply for transfer to a state educational institution.

However, the Minister did not inform what would happen to those students who would decide to transfer to a state university and fail exams. The question also remains whether non-state educational institutions will have enough places for all students.
