Uzbekistan and Iran to strengthen energy cooperation

Iran and Uzbekistan agreed on mutual energy sharing in different periods.

Uzbekistan and Iran are set to deepen energy cooperation. An agreement on cooperation was reached during the meeting between the ministers of energy of the two countries Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov and Ali Akbar Mehrabian, EADaily reports.

IRI Minister of Energy Ali Akbar Mehrabian noted that electricity consumption in Iran and Uzbekistan differs in different periods. He expressed readiness to export surplus electricity to Uzbekistan and import electricity from Uzbekistan during periods of peak demand.

«We are discussing the technical and legal aspects of this issue and hope to start this cooperation with Uzbekistan,» the IRI Minister of Energy said.

The parties discussed the prospects of Iran-Uzbekistan cooperation in the construction of thermal power and hydropower plants, as well as the use of technical and engineering capabilities. Interstate cooperation will start after preparatory actions are done.
