Non-cash payments rapidly gain popularity in Tajikistan

Purchases made using bank cards or e-wallets stood at 20 percent.

The number of non-cash payments has noticeably increased in Tajikistan. Chairman of the National Bank Firdavs Tolibzoda presented statistical data at the press conference, Sputnik reports.

In 2023, the share of non-cash transactions stood at 20 percent. Bank cards and e-wallets are used to make purchases. In 2023, non-cash payments made at trading and service establishments reached 15.5 billion somoni.

In 2023, the total number of bank payment cards increased to 6.7 million and e-wallets — to 8.7 million. This increase is linked to the growing number of customers of several banks.

Over 6,900 POS terminals for non-cash payments were installed at trading and service establishments, which is 79.2 percent more than in the previous year. A larger number of ATMs and electronic payment terminals were installed in bank treasuries. With the aim of providing payment card holders with cash, 2,200 ATMs and 3,400 electronic payment terminals were installed in 2023.
