Humanitarian aid received by Tajikistan slashed by 23.6 percent in 2023 compared to the previous year, amounting to $94.9 million, TASS reports.
According to the Customs Service under the Government of Tajikistan, led by Khurshed Karimzoda Abdurahmon, humanitarian assistance was provided by 61 countries; a total of 23,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid were delivered. Tajikistan received the largest aid shipments from China, the United States and Belgium. Humanitarian aid from Russia stood at 4.8 percent.
In 2022, Tajikistan received the largest amount of humanitarian assistance –$141 million, part of which was provided by the UN to help Tajikistan respond to potential refugee influxes from Afghanistan. In 2015, the amount of humanitarian assistance was the lowest — $44.8 million.
In accordance with the laws of the Republic, humanitarian aid is material assets provided free of charge and for non-commercial purposes.
