Kazakhstan and EAEU to work together to combat “grey” certificates

Proposals to address issues associated with the dominance of “grey” certificates will be presented at the next meeting of the EEC Council in May 2024.

The delegation of Kazakhstan, led by Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin, raised several issues of vital importance for the country at the first meeting of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) in 2024. One of the pressing problems facing the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is the dominance of «grey» certificates, the press office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported.

«It often happens that procedures are violated or tests are not conducted when conformity assessment documents are issued, which is a serious precondition for a rise in counterfeit goods and an adverse health effect,» the press office notes.

It was emphasised that Kazakhstan suspended 200 «grey» certificates issued in other countries 2 years ago, and their number reached 300 documents last year.

The EAEU Member States agreed to take joint consistent measures to solve this problem.  It was decided at the meeting of the EEC Council that the Commission be informed about suspended certificates issued in the EAEU in 2023, and a high-level working group to analyse data and develop proposals be set up.
