Kyrgyzstan may ban depiction of national flag and coat of arms on underwear and socks

A member of the Kyrgyz Parliament proposed banning the depiction of the national flag and coat of arms on underwear and socks to comply with the law on respect to national symbols.

A draft law on the ban of the depiction of the national symbols on underwear and socks was proposed in Kyrgyzstan. A member of the Kyrgyz Parliament Meikinbek Abdaliev initiated this draft law, noting the need to respect the national symbols, as the existing legal acts are not always implemented, Sputnik Kyrgyzstan reports.

«The depiction of these symbols on socks and underwear belittle the importance of the national symbols and is a sign of disrespect,» Meikinbek Abdaliev said.

A detailed list of goods on which the ban will be imposed will be approved by the Government if the law is adopted.

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov signed the Law on changes to the national flag in late December this year. The document has entered into legal force. Earlier, the President said he had asked Speaker of Parliament Nurlan Shakiyev to initiate changes to some elements of the flag. This draft law was supported by parliamentarians.
