Almaty hosts nuclear industry conference

The event lasted two days.

On November 27-28, the conference on Kazakhstan’s nuclear industry marking the 120th birth anniversary of Academician I. V. Kurchatov took place at the Almaty branch of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, the press office of the University reports.

For two days, scientists discussed studies and innovation in nuclear and thermonuclear facilities, accelerator technology, high energy physics, particle detectors and reactor and radiation materials science. The latest developments and research in nuclear technology, as well as professional training in this field were discussed at the roundtable on the prospects for nuclear energy in Kazakhstan.

Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhamila Aitzhanova emphasised the importance of professional training in promoting nuclear energy in Kazakhstan and expressed hope for deepening cooperation with the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI not only in training specialists, but also in conducting joint research. Vice-Rector of NRNU MEPhI Dmitry Savkin noted the importance of bolstering cooperation in various fields, including the implementation of grant programmes in the two countries.

NRNU MEPhI conducted the event jointly with Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The Rosatom State Corporation and Kurchatov Institute National Research Centre provided support. Representatives of the educational institutions and institutes, including the RSE “National Nuclear Centre of the Republic of Kazakhstan”, the Institute of Atomic Energy at the RSE NNC, the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Republic of Kazakhstan and L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, attended the conference.
