Uzbekistan to host session of UNESCO General Conference for first time

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said this decision would help showcase the civilizational potential of the Republic.

President of the 42nd session Simona-Mirela Miculescu announced that the next session of the UNESCO General Conference will take place in Samarkand. The large-scale event will be held in 2025. As is known, the UNESCO Conferences have only been held in Paris since 1985, the press office of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reported to CentralAsia.news.

Miculescu emphasised that this event in Samarkand is a diplomatic success of Uzbekistan.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev thanked his foreign partners for supporting this decision. He called it an important global event. The Uzbek leader noted that the Conference will give the international community an opportunity to see the distinctive civilizational potential of Uzbekistan.

As was reported, Tashkent hosted the Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) not so long ago that brought together the heads of state from Tajikistan, Turkey, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and other countries.
