Samarkand International Climate Forum to take place in 2024

It will provide a platform to discuss such global threats of climate change as drought, and desertification, among others.

On October 18, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the opening ceremony of the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing. The Uzbek leader delivered a speech at the plenary session on joint construction of a green silk road in the interests of harmonious coexistence between man and nature, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported to CentralAsia.news.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed holding an international climate forum in Samarkand in 2024. He said the forum would contribute to finding solutions to global environmental issues. The President noted that the world is currently facing challenges for survival because of climate change, including droughts, dust storms and desertification. He emphasised that the Government of Uzbekistan is seeking to boost partnerships along the green silk road.

In his speech, Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated all the participants in this important event on the tenth anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative, noting that it has received wide support and offered a new model of international partnerships.
