On October 11, in Ashgabat, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with the head of the Turkish MFA Hakan Fidan. They signed a cooperation program between diplomatic departments for 2024-2025. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey reported this on a social network.
The diplomats discussed preparations for the upcoming visit of Turkmen president Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Ankara. They also reviewed the prospects for partnership in trade, energy, transport, construction, education, culture, as well as in the parliamentary sphere. Rashid Meredov and Hakan Fidan also paid attention to consular issues.
On the same day, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey laid a wreath at the Independence Monument of Turkmenistan.
Last year the trade turnover between the countries amounted to more than 2 billion dollars. In January-March 2023, the relevant volume increased by 24,7%, exceeding 541 million dollars. The authorities agreed to increase the trade up to 5 billion dollars per year.
