Emomali Rahmon highlights need to upgrade global financial system

Measures aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals should not lead to rising government debt levels of Member States.

Addressing the UN SDG Summit, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon urged to reconstruct the global financial system. He stressed that measures aimed at achieving the SDGs should not lead to an increase in public debt, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reports the details.

Rahmon noted the need for responsible financial and credit policies and coordination of macroeconomic policies to create an enabling international environment to achieve the SDGs.

The President of Tajikistan also emphasised the importance of creating international conditions conducive to increasing production, noting that such measures should not lead to rising government debt levels of Member States.

In 2015, the UN Member States adopted the Agenda for Sustainable Development. The document is developed until 2030 and is made up of the goals to end poverty, protect natural resources and ensure wellbeing for all.
