Tokayev meets with ombudsmen and human rights activists

The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan gave instructions to representatives of the human rights system.

President Tokayev met with the representatives of the human rights system on the eve of the Constitution Day of Kazakhstan. The meeting focused on the constitutional reform that has attach great significance to the protection of human rights in the country, the Akorda Telegram channel reports.

Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev noted that citizens’ appeals to ombudsmen have increased in number, which testifies to the intensification of interaction between citizens and human rights bodies.

The Kazakh leader set priority tasks for the ombudsmen and human rights activists. He emphasised the importance of taking preventive measures by human rights and law enforcement agencies, as well as developing tools for predicting and preventing human rights violations. He also highlighted the need to take a proactive approach in all potential problematic areas.

Another priority is the optimisation of the activities of the Constitutional Court. In particular, the Parliament and the Constitutional Court need to work closely together.
