Tokayev criticizes poor fire safety management in Almaty

He gave specific instructions to avoid tragedies.

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev held a meeting on the development of Almaty. The necessary measures, including in the field of ecology and fire safety, were discussed, the Telegram channel Akorda reports.

Noting that the city has developed dynamically, but chaotically in recent years, the President emphasised the need to evenly distribute the load on all city districts. The population of Almaty is projected to reach 3 million in the next 20 years.

Particular attention was paid to fire safety issues. The President instructed that large-scale exercises be conducted, and material and technical resources of the fire services be improved. He mentioned a recent fire in the high-rise building in Akkent microdistrict as an example.

The participants also discussed the problems of water supply. Tokayev noted the need to ensure the supply of safe drinking water and assess the current state of the city water supply sector.

The crucial aspects of urban development include the improvement of people’s social welfare. The President instructed that measures be taken to address youth unemployment and develop an employment programme for this category of citizens.
