President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon highlighted the importance of increasing electricity production to achieve sustainable economic growth and meet the growing needs of the country during his meeting with the workers of the Rogun hydropower plant, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported.
Since the first two units were put into operation, the hydropower plant has produced over 6.4 billion kilowatt-hours, which is a significant contribution to the power grid of the country.
The President said Tajikistan’s economy is growing by at least 7% annually, which boosts electricity demand by 2-2.5%. Therefore, efficient use of energy resources is becoming a priority.
The President stressed that the Rogun hydropower plant is the 21st-century project that plays an important role in ensuring national energy security and meeting the electricity needs of industrial sectors and the population of the country.
