UN commends Kazakhstan for combating terrorism

Special emphasis was placed on ensuring regional security and stability and countering terrorist threats.

On July 14, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev held talks with Under-Secretary-General of the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism Vladimir Voronkov and Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate Natalia Gherman. The parties discussed measures to ensure regional security and stability and combat terrorism, the press office of the President of Kazakhstan reported to CentralAsia.news.

«Kazakhstan views the UN as the non-alternative universal international organisation. We believe that each of the Member States should make a feasible contribution to improve its activities. All-round support will be provided from our side to the multifaceted activities of the UN,» the President noted.

The Kazakh leader emphasised that today much is said about the importance of UN Security Council reform. In this regard, Kazakhstan calls for a detailed discussion of this issue in an atmosphere of democracy, when each of the states can make its own contribution and express its opinion on such an important issue.

The United Nations officials highly evaluated Kazakhstan’s efforts to combat terrorist threats and stated that the Republic has become one of the leaders of the UN counter-terrorism agenda.
