ACWA Power plans to build power plant in Uzbekistan

A new energy facility will be located in Syrdarya Region of the Republic.

An important working meeting, which opened up new development prospects for Uzbekistan’s energy sector, took place in Uzbekistan. Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov and Chairman of the Board of Directors of ACWA Power Mohammad Abunayyan discussed the ongoing projects and plans of cooperation, the press office of the Government of Uzbekistan reported to CentralAsia.news.

The interlocutors focused on the construction of a 1.5GW power plant in Syrdarya Region. This is an important project aimed at increasing Uzbekistan’s energy capacity and achieving sustainable development of the country. The company’s plans to build a combined cycle power plant in Syrdarya Region, wind power plants in Karakalpakstan and Bukhara Region and solar power plants in Samarkand and Tashkent Regions were discussed at the meeting.

The interlocutors discussed in details the construction project of a green hydrogen power plant. The plant will generate 3,000 tonnes of hydrogen per year; the construction will begin in 2023.

Currently, ACWA Power has an investment portfolio in Uzbekistan, consisting of 8 projects with a total value of over $6.8 billion. The total capacity of these projects exceeds 5.5 GW.
