Tajikistan has repatriated about 300 citizens from Syria and Iraq

This statement was made on the sidelines of the Third United Nations Counter-Terrorism Week.

Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iraq, the Netherlands, the United States and the UNOCT held a joint event on the repatriation from zones of armed conflicts on the sidelines of the Third United Nations Counter-Terrorism Week in New York. It was noted that since 2019, Tajikistan has repatriated about 300 citizens from Syria and Iraq, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan reported to CentralAsia.news.

The event focused on the experience of Tajikistan in the repatriation of women and children from war-torn areas in the Middle East. It was emphasised that this process was initiated by President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.

The participants were informed about the approach taken in Tajikistan the rehabilitation and integration of repatriates into civilian life.

As was reported, on May 21, Tajikistan repatriated 104 people (29 families) from Syria, including women, teenagers and small children. The flight also brought 5 citizens of Kazakhstan (mother and 4 children) to Tajikistan.
