Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a meeting of the National Commission for UNESCO. In 2022, «The Art of Turkmen Embroidery», «Sericulture and traditions of silk production in weaving» and «Traditions of retelling Hodja Nasreddin’s anecdotes» were included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The Interdepartmental Commission is working to include the nomination «The Art of Breeding Turkmen Alabay» in the list. In May of this year, a collection of poems by the great Turkmen poet Magtymguly was included in the UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register.
In June 2021, during the 31st meeting of the Assembly of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO Turkmenistan was elected to the membership of the IOC Executive Council for 2021-2023. The Chairs of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization operate at two universities of the country. Six educational institutions of the Central Asian state were included in the UNESCO Associated Schools Network.
In 2024, Turkmenistan will host the 10th meeting of the UNESCO National Commissions of TURKSOY Member States.
