Key aspects of social and economic development of Kazakhstan discussed in Astana

President Tokayev set the tasks of diversifying the national economy and increasing the incomes of the people.

On April 19, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev held an extended meeting on key aspects of social and economic development of the country, the press office of the President of Kazakhstan reported.

The heads of key ministries and departments, Prime Minister, heads of the Senate and Mazhilis of Parliament, akims of the regions and the largest cities of the country — Astana, Almaty and Shymkent and chairmen of the committees of the chambers of Parliament and the regional and district maslikhats attended the meeting.

Evaluating the current world economic situation, President Tokayev focused on record inflation rates, a global economic slowdown and an increase in trade restrictions. Against this background, 3,2% GDP growth in 2022 can be considered a good result, but it does not inspire optimism in the long term. Therefore, other sources of revenue need to be found.

The President emphasised that the crucial task is to diversify the national economy. Kazakhstan is an oil and gas power and must adapt to new realities in this sector.

The President instructed the Government and the executive bodies to take further measures to curb the food price surge, highlighting the need to continue to support agriculture, industrial production, increase the incomes of the people, provide access to quality medical care, continue to demonopolise the economy and create new jobs.

Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov, Deputy Prime Minister Altay Kulginov and the akims of the regions and a number of cities presented their reports during the meeting.
