Freedom of Speech Alley opens in capital of Kyrgyzstan

Representatives of the state and independent media planted trees in the alley.

A new alley under the symbolic name «Freedom of Speech» opened in the Yntymak Park in the capital of Kyrgyzstan. State and independent journalists planted trees in the park, the press office of the Government of Kyrgyzstan reported to CentralAsia.news.

The environmental action took place as part of the Zhashyl Muras campaign, initiated by the President of the Republic Sadyr Japarov. Together with representatives of the media, communications officers of the international donor organisations participated in the action.

Head of the Information Policy Service of the Administration of the President of Kyrgyzstan Daiyrbek Orunbekov attended the opening ceremony. He noted that Kyrgyzstan cannot be deprived of freedom of speech, adding that the environmental campaign aimed to bring journalists together for informal discussions of new media challenges and ideas.

Orunbekov said he hoped tree-planting campaigns involving representatives of the media would be held in Bishkek annually.
