Tokayev emphasises potential for mutual import substitution

The President of Kazakhstan addressed a number of proposals to the leaders of the countries on the sidelines of the Central Asia-Russia Summit.

On October 14, the First Central Asia-Russin Summit chaired by President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev took place in Astana. The Chair shared his vision of further interstate interaction in several key dimensions with his counterparts, the press office of Akorda reported.

Mentioning economy as one of these deltas of development, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan called on the participants of the Summit to develop and integrate a new toolkit for economic cooperation among the Central Asian countries and the Russian Federation. The new model should envisage uniting efforts to support small and medium-sized businesses and speed up joint projects in the energy, industrial, transport, logistics and agricultural sectors, the Chair noted.

The Kazakh leader highlighted the need to improve the structures of commodity turnover and broaden its classification range and called on to remove barriers to trade and avoid protectionism.

An effective expansion of industries will enable the CIS Member States to substitute many foreign products on a mutually beneficial basis. The analysis of export-import operations has showed that our countries have extensive opportunities in this regard, the President of Kazakhstan said.

In this context, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev assured that his country is ready for open and constructive cooperation.
