CIS leaders discuss aspects of multifaceted cooperation

The capital of Kazakhstan hosted the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State that aimed to develop a strategy of further interaction within the organisation.

On October 14, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the meeting of the CIS heads of state in Astana. The Summit, chaired by President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, focused on the current state and prospects of multilateral cooperation in the economic, cultural, humanitarian and political spheres, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

The leaders of the Russian Federation, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, the Prime Minister of Armenia and Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Sergey Lebedev arrived in the capital of Kazakhstan to attend the Summit.

In his speech, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev shared his point of view on the major areas of cooperation within the CIS. He noted that the political and economic situation in the world and the region necessitates bringing together the CIS Member states to ensure sustainable development.

The Uzbek leader informed about the economic achievements of partnerships between Uzbekistan and the CIS Member States. He noted the steady growth in trade, the progress of cooperation in the engineering, energy, chemical, pharmaceutical and textile industries and the strengthening of cultural and educational ties among the nations.

The President of Uzbekistan mentioned transport and logistics, cultural and scientific exchange and cooperation in healthcare among the priority areas of further cooperation within the Commonwealth.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev supported the extension of term of Sergei Lebedev as Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee.

Following the CIS Summit, a package of documents on cooperation in various areas was adopted.
