Talimarjan thermal power plant to be privatised

The President of Uzbekistan considered privatising thermal power plants and increasing energy production jointly with UAE companies.

Speaking at the meeting on the objectives of the power sector, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev dwelt on the project to privatise and increase power production at the Talimarjan thermal power plant jointly with UAE companies. The President noted that this facility should become a management model for thermal power plants throughout the country, including power generation efficiency, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported to CentralAsia.news.

It was noted that Uzbekistan and the UAE have enhanced cooperation, particularly in the power sector. Along with the Talimarjan thermal power plant project that will be implemented by the UAE’s companies Mubadala and TAQA, Uzbekistan will implement 4 more projects jointly with Masdar. These include the photovoltaic power plants in Surkhandarya, Samarkand and Jizzakh Regions and a wind farm in Navoi Region. The total cost of the five projects is $3 billion.

The participants discussed the project management and implementation plans with the UAE partners, given the new mechanisms for the promotion and regulation of economic cooperation with the UAE and agreed to speed up contract negotiations.

The renewable energy projects to be implemented jointly with Masdar are expected to increase the share of green energy to 25 percent by 2030.
