Well-known textile brands to explore Uzbek market

Zara, Bershka and other companies are exploring the possibilities for cooperation with Uzbekistan’s textile industry.

A delegation of the Social Sustainability Department of Spanish Inditex visited the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan, the press office of the Ministry reported.

The participants discussed the prospects of cooperation between the company and Uzbek textile enterprises.

Inditex is one of the world’s largest fashion retailers, with such well-known mass-market clothing brands as Zara, Bershka, Massimo Dutti and Pull&Bear.

The representatives of the company noted the success of the reforms launched in Uzbekistan to modernise the textile industry, including the use of a “cluster approach” to cotton production and processing, the elimination of child and forced labour and state support for the clothing enterprises that use eco-friendly technologies. The two last factors allowed the Cotton Campaign to end its campaign to boycott Uzbek cotton.

The Ministry officials made presentations on the potential of the Uzbek textile enterprises and clusters, the expected trading volumes, the measures taken to improve the environmental performance of textile enterprises and the prospects for including Uzbekistan’s textile industry in the global production and supply chains.

The participants of the meeting discussed specific aspects of the company’s activities within the joint projects in Uzbekistan.
