President of Kazakhstan and UN official discuss priorities of cooperation

Tokayev emphasised the contribution made by Kazakhstan to food security and humanitarian support to the countries going through a difficult situation.

On June 9, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev met with First Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Amina Mohammed. The interlocutors discussed the main areas of cooperation in the orbit of the UN urgent programmes, the press office of Akorda reported.

The President paid special attention to the pre-eminent role of the UN in developing and promoting the principle of multilateralism and diplomacy for peace. The Kazakh leader highly evaluated the call of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to hold a high-level forum in 2023 to work on a new strategy for the maintenance of international peace and security.

The President said Kazakhstan targets efforts to achieve food stability and provide humanitarian support to the countries going through a difficult situation. Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev also welcomed Amina Mohammed’s leadership in the Spotlight Initiative regional programme for Central Asia and Afghanistan aimed at eradicating any manifestations of gender-based violence.

The agenda of the talks focused on the Afghan problem. The interlocutors noted the significant importance of concerting global efforts to boost socio-economic revival of Afghanistan.
