Referendum in Kazakhstan illustrates people’s striving for political renewal

The President promised to remove artificial monopolies and build a strong barrier to corruption.

On June 6, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev addressed his compatriots on the success of the referendum on amendments to the Basic Law. The Kazakh leader emphasised that international observers and foreign experts confirmed the high organisational level of the historic event, the press office of Akorda reported.

The President specified that the referendum illustrated the unity and readiness of the people for urgently needed changes, and the high voter turnout proved the maturity and responsibility of the modern Kazakh society. Constitutional amendments are only the beginning of reforms, this renewed base will boost the comprehensive modernisation of the state governance system, the President said.

Dwelling on the prospects, the Kazakh leader noted that the transparent and fair rules need to be built in the economic sector and national laws need to be brought to perfection. The major vectors of these measures are to remove artificial monopolies and build a strong barrier to corruption, Tokayev said.

The President assured that the action plan for serious qualitative transformation and debureaucratization of the state governance system will continue to be implemented to build an advanced state capable of meeting the expectations and demands of the Kazakh society.

In this regard, the President emphasised that the supreme value of New Kazakhstan is its people, and the ultimate goal of ongoing changes is to fulfil the conditions for a happy life and development of citizens of Kazakhstan.
